La humanidad ha sido capaz de hacer cosas sorprendentes incluso llegando a cambiar el clima «sin querer». Para el científico Fernando Valladares urge, pero estamos a tiempo, de hacer una transformación profunda en nuestra relación con la biosfera, una transformación que conserve nuestro planeta y traiga nuevas oportunidades. Doctor en Ciencias Biológicas por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid y corredor de montaña y todo lo que se le ponga por delante, con premios extraordinarios de licenciatura y doctorado y premio internacional Mason H. Hale (Canadá, 1994). En la actualidad es profesor de investigación del CSIC adscrito al Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales en Madrid. Es también profesor asociado de la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos de Madrid.
Ha publicado más de 300 trabajos científicos entre artículos y libros, la mayoría en revistas internacionales de ecología y biología vegetal reflejadas en el ISI. Director científico del Laboratorio Internacional de Cambio Global LINCGlobal resultado de un convenio entre el CSIC (España) y dos prestigiosas universidades de Chile y Brasil y desde 2015 es científico altamente citado en el área de Ecología y Medio Ambiente (Highly Cited Researcher lo que corresponde al grupo del 1% de los científicos de mayor impacto, según Thomson Reuters).
